SEA - Statistical Energy Analysis
ISVR Consulting has extensive experience in the modelling of structures to predict levels of noise and vibration using the Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) method.
SEA is an effective method for understanding complex noise and vibration issues at the early stages in the design of a product or a structure. The SEA method can be used to optimise a final design before a physical prototype is built, saving both time and money.
In the SEA method, the structure being modelled is split into smaller, interacting subsystems. The response of the structure to different forms of excitation, either mechanical or acoustical, is calculated from the strength of the coupling between subsystems and the distribution of damping. The degree of complexity and the frequency range over which the results are valid are constrained to some extent by the statistical nature of the model.
SEA modelling is used to study noise and vibration in a wide range of applications ranging from cars and trucks to aircraft, spacecraft, ships, electronic equipment, buildings, consumer products and more.
ISVR Consulting offers a wide range of SEA services including
- Automotive; modelling and prediction of the interior noise levels in the passenger compartment of a vehicle. A selection of different types of trim materials and other variable details can be incorporated into the model.
- Marine and shipping; modelling and prediction of the noise levels in critical areas of a vessel, such as crew or passenger accommodation, work and machinery rooms.
- Aerospace; modelling and prediction of the noise levels in an aircraft due to turbulence around the fuselage as well as propulsion noise.
- Other noise and vibration problems; modelling of transmission loss problems of building elements, such as walls and roofs, and other types of structure-borne noise problems
We also undertake Finite Element Analysis and other modelling techniques.
