Electroacoustic measurements
ISVR Consulting has extensive test facilities including Anechoic rooms and a Loudspeaker Listening Room. We also have a well equipped laboratory for electroacoustic test measurements on loudspeakers, microphones, headsets, headphones, telephones, handsets, alarm sounders, electronic sirens, pagers, ear-inserts and hearing aids. We also carry out direct speech intelligibility measurements of communications systems, and determine objective measures of intelligibility such as Articulation Index and the Rapid Speech Transmission Index (RASTI).
Loudspeaker tests
- Sensitivity
- Swept-tone frequency response
- Harmonic and Intermodulation distortion
- Pink noise / third octave frequency response
- Polar responses and directivity
- Electrical Impedance plots
Microphone tests
- Sensitivity
- Noise floor
- Swept-tone frequency response
- Harmonic and Intermodulation distortion
- Pink noise / third octave frequency response
- Polar response and directivity
- Electrical Impedance plots
- Noise-discrimination of close-talking microphones
- Specialist measurements for cockpit voice recorder microphones to Eurocae specification
Headset tests
- Earphone frequency response, sensitivity and distortion measurements on artificial ears, ear simulators or a Kemar manikin..
- Undisturbed field equivalent levels of earphone output for estimation of noise exposure and hearing damage risk. See our page Headphones and noise exposures
- Microphone frequency response, sensitivity, distortion, noise discrimination and electrical impedance measurements.
Communications systems
- Measurement of speech intelligibility, using panels of volunteer listeners. Previous projects include the assessment of interference to Private Mobile Radio, assessment of military communications systems
- Assessment of Articulation Index, eg for aircraft or helicopter PA systems
- RASTI (Rapid Sound Transmission Index) measurements for aircraft passenger public address and other PA systems.
- Measurement of the noise reduction from Active Noise Reduction (ANR) headsets and helmets
