Workplace and occupational noise
Noise at work is a major issue in the UK, and not just in the obvious places such as factories. ISVR Consulting has wide experience of measuring, assessing and controlling workers' noise exposures, including those in the following areas- factories, foundries and manufacturing industries
- construction
- process industries - food and drink, chemicals, drugs, plastic, oil
- vehicles and transport, including truck cabs and motorcycles
- call centres, radio and TV studios, police, ambulance, fire and rescue, coastguard and air traffic control rooms, and anywhere that sound is also heard through headsets
- aircraft flight decks and passenger cabins, airport aprons
- emergency services, police, fire and rescue
- ships and lifeboats
- pubs and clubs
- firearms and pyrotechnics
In Great Britain, the noise experienced by workers and employees is controlled by the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, and in Northern Ireland the technically equivalent Control of Noise at Work Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 apply. These regulations set action values above which employers and employees have specific duties. These regulations are the UK's implementations of a European Directive, and equivalent regulations with the same action levels are in force throughout the European Union. With very few exceptions, the Control of Noise at Work Regulations apply to all employers and employees within the UK.
Noise can affect workers in the most unexpected jobs, not just heavy engineering, construction and factories, and we have experience of many non-traditional noise environments.
